Nguyễn Tiến Minh faces a YouTuber in the opening match of the Vietnam Open 2025

Nguyễn Tiến Minh is the most decorated athlete in Vietnam Open history, having won the title four times.

The Vietnamese badminton legend Nguyễn Tiến Minh will compete in the Super 100 Vietnam Open 2025 starting on September 9th at Nguyễn Du Stadium, Ho Chi Minh City.

On the BWF official website, Tiến Minh's name appears in the list of players competing in the men's doubles qualifying round. To enter the main draw, he only needs to win one match in this round.

The opponent for the former world No. 5 in the Vietnam Open 2025 qualifiers has been confirmed. Tiến Minh will face Orijit Chaliha, the Indian player ranked 309th worldwide.

Chaliha is not a well-known player and has hardly achieved notable success in his career. He is better recognized for his personal YouTube channel, which has over 5,000 subscribers and features fairly interesting vlogs.

If he maintains his best physical condition, Tiến Minh can easily overcome this challenge thanks to his superior skill level.

Nguyễn Tiến Minh is the most successful player in Vietnam Open history, having won the championship in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012. Last season, the 1983-born athlete was eliminated in round 2 after a 1-2 upset loss to Samuel Lee from Malaysia.

The Vietnam Open will be the third international tournament Nguyễn Tiến Minh participates in during 2025, following the Singapore International Challenge (where he lost in round 1 to Cheng Kai) and the Ciputra Hanoi - Yonex Sunrise Vietnam International Challenge (where he won against Nguyễn Hải Đăng in the first round but lost to Samarveer in round 2).

Although far from his prime for quite some time, the skill of this former top 5 world player still makes Tiến Minh a tough "rock" for any young opponent to break through.

Besides Nguyễn Tiến Minh, the Vietnam Open 2025 gathers top national badminton stars such as Lê Đức Phát, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, Nguyễn Đình Hoàng, Trần Đình Mạnh, Thân Vân Anh, Vũ Thị Trang (in qualifiers), and notably Nguyễn Thùy Linh, who has won the women's singles title for three consecutive seasons.
