Tomorrow, Shohei Ohtani will play as a two-way player and take a rest the following day—marking his first complete break since his paternity leave in April.

Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers launched his 44th home run of the season against the Rockies today, snapping a five-game stretch without a homer and drawing even with Kyle Schwarber atop the National League home run leaderboard. However, after the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed that Ohtani will pitch and hit tomorrow as a two-way player, but the team plans to give him a full day off on Friday.

In today’s matchup against the Rockies at the hitter-friendly Coors Field, Shohei Ohtani broke his five-game home run drought, helping the Dodgers secure an 11-4 victory. Tomorrow, he’ll take the field as a two-way player. Even though Ohtani’s performance remains stellar, manager Dave Roberts confirmed after the game that Ohtani will rest on Thursday (Friday Beijing time).

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic added that since Ohtani missed two games for paternity leave in April, he hasn’t had a break—making this his first true day off of the season.

This season marks Ohtani’s return to two-way duties after a 22-month hiatus. As a hitter, he’s tallied 44 home runs, posted a .284 batting average, and recorded a 1.015 OPS. On the mound, he’s started nine games, thrown 23.1 innings, struck out 32 batters, and maintained a 3.47 ERA. While his performance has been outstanding, the coaching staff is also mindful of his physical workload, aiming to prevent any injuries that could sideline him from pitching again.
