Kai-Wei Teng surged with 8 strikeouts to secure his second Major League victory as the Giants defeated the Rockies 8-2.

Kai-Wei Teng, pitching for the San Francisco Giants, took advantage of his return to the Major Leagues by starting against the Colorado Rockies today (the 2nd). At Coors Field, often called a "pitcher's graveyard," he showed consistent pitching over 5.1 innings, giving up 9 hits, striking out 8, and walking none. Backed by his team's offense, Teng led the Giants to an 8-2 victory, marking his second win this season and his first career win as a starting pitcher.

Teng’s chance in the Major Leagues came somewhat unexpectedly. After starting pitcher Landen Roupp returned from injury only to get hurt again, and rookie left-hander Carson Whisenhunt was also sidelined, the Giants urgently recalled Teng from Triple-A. This situation proved that maintaining good health is crucial.

Although the Rockies’ home stadium, Coors Field, is famous as a "batter’s paradise," the Rockies rank second to last in the National League in team offense, with a collective OPS of just 0.690 (only the Pirates rank lower). In this game, Rockies starter Chase Dollander pitched 5 innings, giving up 6 runs, bringing his record to 2 wins and 12 losses. The Rockies currently stand at 39-99, on track for their third consecutive 100-loss season, possibly setting a new franchise low. Meanwhile, the Giants improved to an even 69-69 with this win.

In this game, Teng demonstrated excellent crisis management. In the second inning, despite having a runner on third, he struck out two batters consecutively to escape the jam; in the third inning, with a runner on second, he again struck out two back-to-back to get out of trouble. Early in the game, the Giants’ offense provided support when Rafael Devers hit a solo home run in the first inning to put the team on the board. Teng also retired the side in order in the bottom of the first, showing his dominance.

In the fifth inning, Teng allowed a hit, then induced a double play from Mickey Moniak, followed by another strikeout, completing an unconventional "three up, three down." However, in the bottom of the sixth, after recording one out, he gave up consecutive singles to first and second base, loading the bases with runners on second and third, and was then replaced. His reliever, Joel Peguero, was unable to hold the lead, allowing the two inherited runners to score.

Throughout the game, Teng threw 85 pitches, including 36 sliders, 24 four-seam fastballs, 18 curveballs, and 7 sinkers, reaching a top speed of 94.7 mph (approximately 152.4 km/h). His final stats were 5.1 innings pitched, 9 hits allowed, 8 strikeouts, no walks, and 2 runs given up, lowering his ERA from 8.78 to 7.23, with a season record now at 2 wins and 3 losses.
