During the Padres' 3-4 home defeat to the Orioles, reliever Jason Adam exited the game because of an injury. From the broadcast, it appeared he said, "I felt something snap" after falling to the ground.
In the matchup against the Orioles, the game was tied 3-3 at the top of the 7th inning when Adam was brought in to pitch in relief. After one out, he gave up a single to first base, then faced Gunnar Henderson, who hit a weak grounder to the left side of the mound. As Adam moved to field it, he injured his left leg and collapsed, unable to continue pitching and was eventually carried off the field.
Replay footage showed that when the trainer rushed over, Adam appeared to say, "I felt something snap." Robert Suarez then replaced Adam on the mound but unfortunately gave up a hit to Dylan Beavers, resulting in a run charged to Adam. The Padres ultimately lost 3-4, with Adam taking the loss.
Padres manager Mike Shildt revealed after the game that Adam suffered a quadriceps tendon rupture. Adam himself said he is now waiting for an MRI tomorrow to confirm the injury but expects to be sidelined for 6 to 9 months. This season, Adam has been one of the Padres' main bullpen pitchers, appearing in 65 games with a 1.93 ERA. He added, "I told the GM, I'm glad you got Mason Miller; this bullpen is so strong. Is there a bullpen in the league that doesn’t need me? Only here."
