The Kansas City Royals' home field will have its home run wall distance shortened as renovations begin at the "pitcher's paradise," Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals revealed that Kauffman Stadium will see modifications to its home run walls in the new season, potentially ending its status as a "pitcher's haven."

Previously, Kauffman Stadium’s wide outfield dimensions benefited pitchers who rely on fly balls and hitters who focus on making contact. Now, during the offseason, the Royals have decided to shorten the home run wall distances to encourage more home runs and extra-base hits, aiming to enhance the entertainment value of the games.

The Royals plan to reduce the outfield distances by 8 to 10 feet, with the left to center field area shortened by 8 feet, narrowing the field’s width while maintaining the center field distance at 410 feet. After the reduction, approximately 150 new seats will be added in left field, and about 80 new drinkrail seats will be installed in right field, offering fans more viewing options.

According to data, Kauffman Stadium’s past run expectancy ranked low in the major leagues, but the renovation is expected to raise it to a mid-level ranking, making it a highlight for the upcoming season. The project is scheduled to be completed before the home opener against the Minnesota Twins on March 30 local time.
