The Chicago White Sox have signed fireballer Seranthony Domínguez to a two-year contract, strengthening their bullpen with a key piece.

Chicago White Sox General Manager Chris Getz emphasized this week that the team’s efforts to bolster the roster continue following the trade of Luis Robert Jr. to the Mets. He said yesterday, "We intend to remain active, have started talks with agents and teams, and the roster will keep evolving."

With Robert’s $20 million contract for 2026 now off the books, Chicago quickly reallocated resources. According to MLB’s official report today, the White Sox have reached a two-year, $20 million agreement with right-hander Seranthony Domínguez, though the team has yet to confirm it officially.

The 31-year-old Domínguez has spent seven years in the majors with the Phillies, Orioles, and Blue Jays, appearing in 322 games with a 3.50 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 40 saves. This seasoned right-hander brings extensive experience in high-leverage situations and is expected to fill a similar role with the White Sox.

In the 2025 season, Domínguez pitched for Baltimore and Toronto (traded to the Blue Jays on July 29), setting career highs with 67 appearances and 62.2 innings pitched. He posted a 3.16 ERA, a 1.28 WHIP, recorded 20 holds (a personal best), struck out 79 batters, walked 36, and held opponents to a .198 batting average.

His 2025 arsenal includes five pitches: a four-seam fastball, cutter, splitter, sinker, and curveball. The four-seam fastball was his primary pitch (43.2% usage) with an average velocity of 97.7 mph (about 157.2 km/h), ranking above 94% of pitchers league-wide. Other key stats include an opponent average exit velocity of 87.5 mph (better than 89% of pitchers), a 33.3% whiff rate (top 6%), and a 30.3% strikeout rate (top 9%). However, his 13.8% walk rate ranks better than only 1% of pitchers, with a career-high 5.2 walks per nine innings.

Domínguez excels at generating swings and misses; his cutter and splitter serve as effective secondary weapons disrupting hitters’ timing. Opponents hit just .132 with a .245 slugging percentage off his cutter and .114 with a .159 slugging percentage against his splitter.

In 2025, the White Sox’s leaders in holds were Jordan Leasure (7) and Grant Taylor (6), both with experience in critical moments. Although Domínguez’s career-high 16 saves came during his rookie year in 2018, his experience suggests he could be a candidate for manager Will Venable’s ninth-inning setup options. At minimum, the White Sox are assembling a bullpen equipped for high-pressure situations.

Domínguez is the latest addition in a series of roster upgrades this offseason for the White Sox. After acquiring Luisangel Acuña and Truman Pauley via the Robert trade, the team signed powerful Japanese hitter Munetaka Murakami and Anthony Kay to two-year deals in December, and also brought in lefty Sean Newcomb to compete for a rotation spot.

Getz emphasized yesterday that the team does not feel compelled to replace Robert specifically in the outfield, but is taking a comprehensive look at the roster: "When you lose a player like Robert, people assume you need to fill a particular position. But our goal is to improve overall team strength to win games — whether that comes from starters, relievers, or balancing left- and right-handed hitters. We are open-minded and look forward to creatively adding talent."
