The New York Yankees recently made a roster adjustment by claiming outfielder Michael Siani off waivers after he was designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers, while designating right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort for assignment to clear a roster spot.
At 26 years old, Siani was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth round of the 2018 draft and made his major league debut in 2022. In 2024, he played the most games of his career with 124 appearances, hitting .228 with 2 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. The following year, he appeared in only 19 games with a .235 average, spending most of his time in Triple-A where he posted a .209 average with 8 home runs, 41 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases across 101 games. Over his career, he has played 160 games and has maintained a flawless defensive record with zero errors in 1,014 innings in the outfield, making his defensive skills his greatest asset.
After acquiring star outfielder Kyle Tucker during the offseason, the Dodgers' need for outfield depth decreased, leading to Siani's removal from the 40-man roster.
According to the American media outlet MLB Trade Rumors, the Yankees might still place Siani back on waivers in the coming weeks, but he provides a valuable outfield option for the team. Additionally, he has one option remaining, allowing him to be sent to Triple-A while staying on the 40-man roster.
