The Boston Red Sox of MLB announced today Beijing time that they have invited 14 non-40-man roster players to join the major league spring training, among them Chinese-American left-handed pitcher Jeremy Wu-Yelland (Chinese name: Wu Changchen). Following five seasons in the minors, Wu advanced to Double-A last year, and his performance has generated strong anticipation from the Red Sox.
In the 2020 draft, Wu was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round with a signing bonus of $200,000. During the 2025 season, he appeared in 25 games across High-A and Double-A levels, pitching 45.2 innings with a 3.15 ERA, recording 71 strikeouts and only 16 walks. His strikeouts per nine innings (K/9) reached an impressive 14.0, earning him his first invitation to major league spring training.
Wu is a left-handed pitcher with a sidearm delivery, capable of reaching a top velocity of 97 mph (about 156 km/h). His fastball consistently sits between 94 and 96 mph, making him a highly effective left-handed relief pitcher.
The Red Sox also invited right-hander Noah Song to the major league spring training. In his comeback season last year, Song started in the minors and progressed through five levels, pitching a total of 55 innings with 61 strikeouts and 28 walks.
