New York Mets Suffer Tenth Straight Loss, Simeon Says Tomorrow is a New Day

The New York Mets' losing streak persists, today losing 4-2 to the Chicago Cubs away, suffering ten straight defeats. One more loss would equal the team's longest losing streak record in the 21st century.

"No one will feel sorry for us," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, "We must keep moving forward. We haven't played well recently, but there are still five and a half months in the season, we have the chance to write our own history."

Mets starting pitcher Freddy Peralta performed well through the first five innings, recording three strikeouts and one walk, allowing three hits, and only conceding one run in the second inning when Ian Happ hit a solo home run. The Mets tied with the Cubs early, thanks to a solo home run by Mark Vientos in the second inning.

However, in the sixth inning, Peralta issued two consecutive walks after two outs, and reliever Brooks Raley was then hit by a three-run homer from Cubs pinch-hitter Carson Kelly. Although the Mets scored one run in the eighth inning following consecutive hits by Bo Bichette and Francisco Lindor, they ultimately lost by two runs.

In this low-scoring game, the Mets out-hit the Cubs by two hits, but could not overcome the timely power of the opponent's two home runs. After suffering ten consecutive losses, Mets second baseman Marcus Semien, who had one hit and one walk in three at-bats today, said: "Of course losing so many games in a row is frustrating, but victory isn't something baseball owes you, you have to go out and seize it yourself."

"We don't have time to dwell on tonight's game," Simeon said, "Tomorrow is a new day. It's simple, tomorrow we just need to go out with a good attitude, and I hope when people see me, they see the smile on my face."
