Dodgers flamethrower Graterol's back injury worsens, requiring surgery; potential season-ending setback again

Per a report from the California Post, Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Brusdar Graterol is set to have surgery due to a back issue. The outlet predicts the operation will set back his rehabilitation, potentially sidelining him for the whole season.

Now 27, the Venezuelan fireballer has struggled with injuries in recent years. In the 2024 regular season, he made only seven appearances, with just three outings in the postseason. Last season, things worsened as Graterol continued battling injuries, ultimately missing the entire year due to right shoulder surgery.

This season, Graterol began a rehab assignment in Triple-A in early May, and his preparation was progressing well. However, after his fourth appearance on May 12, his back condition deteriorated, leading to his absence from games ever since. He was subsequently placed on the 60-day injured list. The California Post reported that this surgery could extend his recovery and noted, "He might miss another season."

Earlier, Graterol shared a photo on his Instagram story showing himself lying on a hospital bed, along with the caption: "I've fallen again, but this is not the end. I will get back up; my goals are not finished."

This back injury will likely delay Graterol's return. Additionally, two of the Dodgers' top starting pitchers, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, are also currently sidelined with injuries, putting considerable strain on the team's pitching staff.
