Shohei Ohtani's three-hit game not enough as Dodgers fall 4-1 to Diamondbacks

The Los Angeles Dodgers traveled to face the Arizona Diamondbacks, their divisional rivals, on the road. Shohei Ohtani had a strong performance at the plate with three hits, but the other Dodgers batters were held in check by the Diamondbacks' pitchers, collecting just three hits besides Ohtani's. Arizona secured the 4-1 victory by hitting three home runs.

In the top of the first inning, Ohtani grounded out in his first at-bat. In the top of the third, Ohtani and Andy Pages each hit doubles to put runners on second and third. The next batter, Freddie Freeman, grounded out, allowing Ohtani to score from third, giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. In the top of the fifth, Ohtani stepped to the plate for the third time and lined a single against an inside sinker.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tommy Troy of the Diamondbacks hit a solo home run off Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, tying the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh, Nolan Arenado also hit a solo homer, putting Arizona ahead 2-1. In the bottom of the eighth, after Troy singled, Ketel Marte launched a two-run home run to left field, extending the lead to 4-1. In the top of the eighth, Ohtani added another hit, but it did not spark a rally.

In the bottom of the ninth, Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald retired three consecutive batters, sealing a 4-1 victory for Arizona over the Dodgers.

Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three hits and two runs, taking his second loss of the season. Diamondbacks starter Eduardo Rodriguez threw six innings, giving up five hits and one run, striking out three, and ended with no decision.
