The Chicago White Sox hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers for the last game of their three-game series at home today, the final meeting between the two teams this season. Three home runs in the sixth inning propelled the White Sox to a 6–4 victory, giving them a series win of two games to one and moving them back into first place in the AL Central.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was absent from the game because he attended his daughter's college graduation ceremony.
Dodgers star first baseman Freddie Freeman smashed a solo home run in the top of the first inning, his 11th of the season, giving Los Angeles a 1–0 lead through five innings. Against Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan, the White Sox managed only one hit and struck out eight times in the first five frames. In the bottom of the sixth, leadoff hitter Sam Antonacci launched a solo shot, igniting a powerful rally that completely changed the game's momentum.
Sheehan then allowed two more hits and a run before being pulled. Dodgers reliever Jack Dreyer gave up three consecutive hits, including two-run homers by Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth. The White Sox batted around in the inning, stringing together six straight hits to plate six runs and seize control of the game.
The Dodgers scored one run in each of the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, including a solo home run by Mookie Betts in the top of the eighth, but still fell short by two runs. Shohei Ohtani went hitless in two at-bats, with one strikeout and two walks, ending his six-game hitting streak. He still leads the team with a .302 batting average, 75 hits, and a .427 on-base percentage.
The White Sox have won eight straight home series and defeated the Dodgers in a series for the first time in 12 years. With a 38–32 record, they have returned to first place in the AL Central, while the Guardians sit second at 39–33 with no games back separating the two.
Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann served as acting manager for this game, and the team ultimately lost. He commented, “The White Sox are a completely different and very talented team compared to last year or the year before. We tip our caps to their performance.”
