When the MLB All-Star Game returns to Wrigley Field next summer, this historic landmark in Chicago's North Side will become the only active ballpark to host the annual baseball event four times.
Before today's series opener against the Minnesota Twins at home, the Cubs officially unveiled the 2027 All-Star Game logo, bringing the moment to life at the "Friendly Confines." Surrounding the infield were Cubs legends, who collectively made 24 All-Star appearances, their presence spanning every Midsummer Classic held at the intersection of Clark and Addison.
Two-time All-Star Pete Crow-Armstrong, now the team's new face, stood at home plate and pulled back the curtain covering the massive 2027 logo. Anthony Rizzo, a three-time All-Star and key member of the 2016 World Series championship team, took the mound, throwing a ceremonial pitch surrounded by famous Cubs fan and actor Bill Murray, as well as Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder.
On the third-base side stood Andre Dawson (eight-time All-Star) and Shawon Dunston (two-time All-Star), both Cubs legends who participated in the last All-Star Game at Wrigley Field in 1990. On the second-base side was "Sweet Swing" Billy Williams (six-time All-Star), representing the 1962 All-Star Game held at this ballpark. At first base, the niece of Cubs legend Phil Cavarretta (three-time All-Star) was invited; Cavarretta played in the 1947 All-Star Game at Wrigley.
This scene was a heartfelt tribute to the Cubs' rich history and the old ballpark, which first opened in 1914.
"For more than a century, as one of the two oldest and most original ballparks in the league, Wrigley Field has connected generations of players and fans through their shared love of baseball," Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts said in a statement. "Each generation has left its own unique memories at Wrigley Field. In 2027, baseball history will write a new chapter here. We are honored to once again welcome fans from around the world to Chicago to celebrate the history, tradition, and cherished memories that make this 'Friendly Confines' one of the most enduring home fields in baseball."
The unveiled All-Star logo cleverly blends the team's history with Chicago's city elements. The words "All-Star Game" appear in white lettering, echoing the famous red sign above the home plate entrance at Wrigley Field, set across a red banner representing that sign. Embedded in the banner is a blue six-pointed star representing the Chicago city flag, while the overall logo background features a large blue star, the Cubs' iconic symbol.
"Major League Baseball is thrilled to see historic Wrigley Field take center stage," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Chicago's deep baseball roots make it the perfect stage for the game's brightest stars to shine. With the unveiling of the 2027 MLB All-Star Game logo, we look forward to working closely with the Cubs, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois to showcase to the world the vibrant culture, iconic neighborhoods, passionate fans, and unwavering love for baseball that define this 'Windy City.'"
