Tomoyuki Kanno is confirmed to enter the Golden Orioles' starting rotation at the end of the month for his major league debut against the Blue Jays

Tomoyuki Kanno, the former Toyomi Giants ace pitcher in Tokyo, confirmed his entry into the starting rotation and became one of the five starting pitchers in the Baltimore Orioles opening season, the other four being Zach Eflin, Charlie Morton, Dean Kremer, and Cade Povich, and the rookie left pitcher Povich grabbed the No. 5 starting rotation.

Kanno's major league debut, which could be on March 30 or 31 CST, will be the No. 3 or No. 4 starting rotation against the Toronto Blue Jays, who will open a four-game match in Toronto.

The Orioles, while strong, lacked a true ace pitcher for the new season, with scheduled No. 1 starter Grayson Rodriguez injured and Aveline, who was traded from the Rays last year, as the opener in the opener. The 41-year-old is already a veteran, having signed a one-year contract with the 35-year-old Kanno.

Aveline's annual salary is $18 million, Morton's $15 million, Kanno's $13 million, and Kramer's $2.95 million. The Orioles couldn't keep the Celeron Trophy for Corbin Burnes, who went to the Arizona Rattlesnakes for six years, $210 million, an average annual salary of $35 million.

"It's tough in professional sports, especially in baseball, and you can't stop players from leaving for small-market teams that can't afford to pay $300 million in group salaries," said Mike Elias, director of the Orioles. The Orioles went 91-71 in the East last season, losing to the Royals in the wild card game, but also made the playoffs for the second year in a row.
