The Chicago Cubs will sign left-handed Cabrera to bolster the bullshed

According to MLB.com sources, the Cubs have reached an agreement with left-shooting backup pitcher Génesis Cabrera for a major league contract, which will take effect after passing a medical examination. The team has yet to officially confirm the deal.

Cabrera, 28, was designated by the Mets on Saturday and has played six games for the team in the 2025 season with a 3.52 ERA. On Tuesday, he refused to be delegated to the minor league after being unclaimed in the transfer process, opting to become a free agent.

The seven-year MLS left-handed shooter has played in 278 games in his career, playing for the Cardinals, Blue Jays and Mets, with a 3.88 ERA on 283.1 innings, 275 strikeouts and 139 warranties. After playing for the Blue Jays for the 2024 season, he signed a minor league contract with the Mets last November.

When the contract comes into effect, Cabrera will become the third left-hand pitcher in the Cubs Bullshed, joining Caleb Thielbar and Drew Pomeranz.
