Kemp, a 55-year-old retired star who was selected to the NBA All-Star Game six times, pleaded guilty to "second-degree assault" in Pierce County Superior Court in Washington, and prosecutors will recommend a nine-month sentence in county jail, with formal sentencing due in August.

According to a report by the Seattle Times on the 29th, the case stems from March 2023, when Camp opened fire on two men in a car in a shopping mall parking lot in Tacoma City. Although no one was injured, the shooting resulted in damage to the vehicle along with another vehicle. Camp was initially charged with one count of first-degree assault with aggravated charges for possession of a gun, and later added another count of assault and car-and-gun charges.
Camp played 15 seasons in the NBA, playing in his heyday with the Seattle SuperSonics and helping the team reach the Finals in 1996. After retiring as a player, he was arrested for drugs and controversial over his private life, and now the shooting has once again sent the retired star into a storm.
