Malaysia's number one men's doubles "Xie Su Combination" Xie Dingfeng and Su Weiyi have advanced to the finals for 4 consecutive tournaments! After playing five matches in the past two weeks at the Thailand and Malaysia Badminton Super 500 tournaments, world No.3 Chia Ting Feng and So Wei Yi still made it all the way to the men's doubles final in Singapore this week.
Having previously won the Asian Championships and the Thailand Super 500, Cheah Su is now looking to win the title in Singapore
In the men's doubles semi-finals of the 2025 Singapore Open on May 31 local time, the pair defeated old rivals and former Indian world No. 1 Savisela and Zila (now world No. 27) 19-21, 21-10, 21-18. This is the second time the two sides have met since the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics last August, and Xie Su is now on a second winning streak and is now the 10th in 13 meetings so far.
Cheah Su is Malaysia's last favourition to win the tournament, while the last time Malaysia won the Men's Doubles at the Singapore Open was Faruzzuan and Chakili in 2008, and the last time a Malaysian player won the tournament was in 2018 when they won the Mixed Doubles with Goh Xun and Lai Kit Min. Including their victory at the Asian Badminton Championships last month, Xie Su has reached the semi-finals of four consecutive tournaments, and then won the Thailand Open for the first time in a row. Under the tutelage of the new men's doubles head coach of the Malaysian national team, Peng Weixin, Xie Su continues to show stable form.
Xie Su will next face South Korea's world No. 10 "Kim Seo Pair" Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in the final on the 1st, which is no small challenge, and the Kim Seo pair is in hot form, participating in 7 tournaments this year to advance to the finals in 5 of the 7 tournaments, and winning the Malaysian Super 1000, All England and German Super 300 championships. Xie Su and Xu Jin have only met once before, in the semifinals of the Indian Super 750 in January, when Xie Su lost.
