Lu Guangzu defeated France's world No. 23 Christo Popov 21-15, 8-21, 21-15 in the men's singles semifinals on May 31 local time, winning both meetings so far.

After successfully reaching the final, Lu will face Thailand's world No. 2 Kunlavut for the second time this year after the men's singles final at last month's Asian Badminton Championships.

Lu Guangzu has lost all five meetings with Kunlavut in the three years between 2022 and 2025, and his only victory over Kunlavut was in the first round of the 2021 Badminton World Championships, which was also their first meeting.
