Major League Baseball today officially announced details of the 2025 MLB Draft presented by Nike, which will once again take place during All-Star Week. The draft will take place over two days on July 13-14 (U.S. time), with the opening night scheduled for July 14 at 6 a.m. EDT (July 13 at 6 p.m. ET) at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta's battery park, livestreamed via ESPN and MLB Network.
The opening night of the draft will feature a top 105 pick, including the first three rounds, compensatory rounds, competitive balance rounds, and prospect promotion incentive selections, followed by a fourth-round pick on Monday. ESPN and MLB Network will be the top 43 picks in the Coca-Cola Roxy Theater. After the live broadcast, MLB Network will broadcast the remaining 62 spots on opening night in tandem with MLB.com. The entire draft will be completed in 20 rounds over two days. The next day (July 14), rounds 4 through 20 of the draft will kick off at 23:30 Beijing time (11:30 EST) in MLB.com.
The top six picks in the draft were determined through MLB's annual draft lottery held at Winter Meetings last December. Starting with the seventh pick, the remaining picks are ranked according to the reverse order of finish of the teams that did not make the playoffs, and the teams in the playoffs are ranked according to the final 2024 playoff record. The Washington Nationals, who won the No. 1 pick in the Dallas Draft, will finish first in the first round for the third time. Previously, the Nationals drafted back-to-back All-Stars Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper in 2009 and 2010. The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays tied for the most in the major leagues with six picks each on opening night, while the Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee Brewers each had five.
For the 17th year in a row, MLB Network will produce a comprehensive report on the MLB Draft Opening Night presented by Nike, featuring interviews with newly drafted players, highlight video, live Club draft rooms, player profiles and interviews with team management. MLB Network's Draft Pre-Show presented by Nike begins at 5 a.m. EDT (5 p.m. ET) on July 14.
SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio channel (SiriusXM channel 89) will also provide live draft coverage from the Roxy Playhouse to a national audience. Beginning July 13 at 5 p.m. ET, listeners will be able to tune in to the first round of pick-by-pick analysis on SiriusXM channel 89 or the SiriusXM app.
For the third year in a row, the 2025 MLB Draft Composite will be held June 17-21 at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamonds. MLB Network will cover the tryout from start to finish. More than 300 players recognized by USA Baseball and MLB teams will be invited to participate. Tryouts provide players with the opportunity to participate in medical evaluations, athletic performance tests, and professional baseball career planning training. Participants will have direct interviews with the general manager of the major league team and the director of scouting. In addition, players will be featured on MLB's social media platforms and receive personal branding training and customized video content services.
More information about the 2025 MLB Draft, including a list of potential amateur players and fan engagement details, will be announced in the coming weeks.
