The Dodgers' pitching lineup at the start of the 2025 season appears to be among the best in the league, but the performance of their luxurious pitching staff in Los Angeles has not met expectations so far.
Starters Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, and Tony Gonsolin are all on the injured list, while Tyler Glasnow has also been sidelined for an extended period before returning on July 1. Relievers Blake Treinen, Michael Kopech, and Evan Phillips are similarly unavailable. Meanwhile, closer Tanner Scott, who joined in the offseason for four years and $72 million, has blown seven save opportunities with a 4.09 ERA.
With Glasnow returning and Snell nearing a comeback, the Dodgers may choose to maintain the status quo in their starting rotation. However, the bullpen situation is clearly different.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Dodgers plan to seek bullpen help as the deadline approaches.
The available relievers from seller teams with expiring contracts this year are not impressive, with Gregory Soto and Seranthony Domínguez from the Orioles, Raisel Iglesias from the Braves, Kyle Finnegan from the Nationals, and former Dodger Kenley Jansen (now with the Angels) being among the top options. If playoff fringe teams like the Cardinals (Ryan Helsley), Reds (Emilio Pagan), and Rangers (Chris Martin, Hoby Milner, Shawn Armstrong) decide to sell, the choices could increase.
Some controllable relievers are also worth noting, including Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax from the Twins, Emmanuel Clase from the Guardians, Félix Bautista from the Orioles, and Pete Fairbanks from the Rays, but the trade cost for these players is likely to be high.
Bob Nightengale from USA Today recently reported that the Dodgers have expressed "strong interest" in Duran and Jax, alongside the Phillies, Tigers, Cubs, and Reds.
Free agent David Robertson is another potential candidate; he pitched for the Texas Rangers last year with a 3.00 ERA and recorded 99 strikeouts, and he has reportedly been auditioning for multiple teams.
