The Padres' interest in the 28-year-old Duran has persisted for several months.

The Red Sox's pursuit of top starting pitchers isn't limited to Cease. McAdam added that the team has recently engaged with the Marlins regarding right-hander Sandy Alcantara—who is also coveted by the Padres.
