The Yankees bolster their infield by acquiring utility player Amed Rosario from the Nationals.

After strengthening third base yesterday, the Yankees took action again before the July 31 trade deadline, securing infielder Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals, giving up right-hander Clayton Beeter (the Yankees' 20th-ranked prospect) and 18-year-old outfield prospect Browm Martinez.

The 29-year-old Rosario has appeared in 158 plate appearances for the Nationals this season, posting a batting line of .270/.310/.426 with 5 home runs, primarily playing second and third base, while also having experience at shortstop and in the outfield. "Being familiar with the Yankees' players gives me great comfort," said Rosario, who previously played for the Mets. "It's amazing to have teams pursue me during the playoff race."

After acquiring third baseman McMahon from the Rockies two days ago, the Yankees further deepen their infield with Rosario. The right-handed hitting Rosario can form a left-right combination at third base with the left-handed McMahon—who has a batting line of just .207/.289/.310 against lefties—while Rosario has an impressive .299/.333/.483 line against left-handed pitchers. He is capable of playing all infield positions except first base.

26-year-old Beeter was selected in the second round by the Dodgers in 2020 and was traded to the Yankees in 2022 as part of the Joey Gallo deal. He made his MLB debut last year but was optioned to Triple-A after allowing 6 runs in 3.2 innings over 2 relief appearances earlier this month. This season, he has a 3.10 ERA in 18 games at Triple-A Scranton.

Martinez signed with the Yankees in January 2024 and has played in the Dominican Summer League for the past two years. Last year, he posted a .278 batting average and a .386 on-base percentage in 38 games, while this season, he has seen his stats soar to .404/.507/.632 in 18 games, including 4 doubles and 3 home runs.
