This year, Japanese left-handed pitcher Shin Yoshinobu Ogasawara joined the Washington Nationals to challenge the Major Leagues. Today (15th), he was specially called up by the coach to face the Philadelphia Phillies' power hitter Kyle Schwarber in the seventh inning with two outs and the bases empty. Shin Yoshinobu Ogasawara made his first Major League start against the Boston Red Sox on July 7, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing seven hits and four runs. On July 13, he started again against the Milwaukee Brewers, giving up three runs over four innings. In his two appearances, he recorded a record of 0 wins and 1 loss, with an ERA of 9.45. He was then sent down to Triple-A for adjustments. After making improvements in the minor leagues, he returned to the Major Leagues on the 4th of this month and has since made seven appearances, lowering his ERA to 6.28.
