Kobe Bryant's iconic photo has been transformed into a Dodgers-themed mural.

This photo is iconic. On April 23, 2008, during the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets, Kobe Bryant scored 49 points, tugged at his golden Lakers jersey, and let out a roar.

This image has been used in many murals across Southern California, including a life-sized mural painted on the side of the future Eat Fantastic restaurant located at 700 North Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach.

However, this artwork is slightly different from others and the original. Kobe's passion remains, his pose is identical, and he is still wearing the number 24 jersey.

In this version, the jersey is no longer golden with purple "Lakers" lettering on the front; instead, it is white with blue "Dodgers" lettering.

This modified iconic image is just part of a large mural intended to pay tribute to the Dodgers' 2024 World Series championship. The mural is located on the north side of the former Carl's Jr. building, which will open later this year as part of the growing Eat Fantastic chain in the Los Angeles area.

The mural was conceived by artist Gustavo Zermeño Jr. and Eat Fantastic restaurant owner Efthemios Alexander Tsiboukas.

The mural depicts some key figures from the Dodgers' championship journey, including players Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani (with his dog Decoy), and rapper Ice Cube. Ice Cube is shown driving a classic Dodgers blue convertible, just like he did during his performance before Game 3 of the World Series.

Including the late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant in this mural was essential, said Gustavo Zermeño.

“Every Eat Fantastic location has a mural of Kobe Bryant, at least those with decent wall space do,” said Gustavo Zermeño, a die-hard fan of both the Dodgers and Kobe Bryant. “For this location, Efthemios Alexander Tsiboukas wanted to create something for the championship team, so we have Kobe wearing a Dodgers jersey.”

Gustavo Zermeño stated, “The original idea was to paint Kobe Bryant in a Dodgers baseball jersey, just like he did when he watched the team play a few years before his unfortunate passing in January 2020.”

“So we found this image, you know, it has appeared in several murals before, but we wanted to make a change using the Dodgers' jersey.”

Efthemios Alexander Tsiboukas said, “This is my favorite photo of Kobe Bryant, and I have an identical one in my Arcadia restaurant (painted in the restaurant), but he is wearing the real jersey, the yellow one. So I wanted to replicate the one I painted in Arcadia and put him in a Dodgers jersey because the Dodgers dynasty is on the rise now.”
