Raleigh hit his 47th home run of the season, living up to the expectations of the young players.

In Williamsport, Pennsylvania, today's national broadcast night game featured the Seattle Mariners against the New York Mets. While watching the game at Bowman Field, most of the young ballplayers filling the stands didn't care who won or lost. What they absolutely wanted to see was a home run from Raleigh right in front of them.

And Cal Raleigh delivered just that.

In the top of the seventh inning, Raleigh took the second pitch he saw from Mets reliever Reed Garrett and sent it soaring to left field, clearing the opposite home run wall. This marked his 47th home run of the season, bringing him closer to tying the single-season record for catchers in Major League Baseball. Last Saturday, he surpassed Johnny Bench with his 46th home run, claiming sole possession of second place on that prestigious list. Now, he is just one home run away from tying Salvador Perez's record for catchers.

“I love watching him hit home runs,” said Mariners manager Dan Wilson. “I enjoy seeing him pick up the trident. I like that all our players are picking up the trident. Once again, Cal put on a great display of swinging tonight... No, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this.”

Just a few hours before Raleigh hit the home run, he spent the entire afternoon answering questions from players participating in this year's Minor League World Series. He rode the airport bus with two players from the Southeast Division teams. The duo bombarded him with questions, asking which brand of bat he used when he was 12.

Clearly, that power must have started somewhere, right? Why wouldn’t you want to follow in those footsteps?

Raleigh smiled as he reminisced about what it was like to be a hitter at 12 years old. He quickly realized how popular he was among the young ball fans, as he was surrounded by a group of kids eagerly asking for pictures and autographs before he had even stepped a foot off the bus.

The 2025 Home Run Derby champion has earned this admiration, but he reaffirmed it by giving these young fans an unforgettable moment, witnessing his 47th home run firsthand.

“He’s a hard worker,” Wilson said. “He puts a lot of effort into his swings and has found what he needs. I believe he’s a player we’ve always known had a high ceiling since his minor league days. His performance behind the plate and in the batter's box is incredible. He has taken on both responsibilities and is doing a fantastic job... It’s been an unbelievable season for him.”
