It's over, it's over! Farewell to the number one draft pick! Reports say the NBA door is now closed.

Simmons truly wants to pack up and leave, with his mind seemingly far from basketball, as shown by his recent social media avatar featuring him as a fisherman.

According to Forbes journalist Sidery, no teams are currently interested in signing Simmons, making retirement a likely option.

Actually, Simmons wasn’t completely ignored during this summer’s offseason; earlier, journalist Stein revealed that the Knicks offered him a veteran minimum contract, but he surprisingly declined it. New York Post reporter Bondy followed up with reports saying, after learning that Simmons was uninterested in any offers (including the Knicks'), his agent Bernie Lee decided to part ways with him.

Key point: Simmons is not interested in any proposals... which clearly confirms he might have decided to end his basketball career.

In summary, based on all current information, this 2016 top draft pick will most likely say goodbye to the NBA.

Simmons was once hailed as the next LeBron James at the start of his career, yet while the real LeBron is still dominating at 40 years old with a $52.63 million salary this season, Simmons at just 29 is preparing to disappear from the public eye.

Considering Simmons has earned a total of $203 million over his NBA career so far, retiring now isn’t a big issue. If he spends the rest of his life focusing on dating, gaming, fishing, and other leisure activities without bad investments or scams, he can live carefree and enjoy life to the fullest.

Looking at Simmons’ entire NBA career, the earlier years were brilliant but the later ones quite disappointing. Between 2017 and 2021, he earned Rookie of the Year, was named to the All-NBA Third Team once, made the All-Defensive First Team twice, led the league in steals once, and was a three-time All-Star; from 2021 to 2025, he played only 108 regular-season games and 5 playoff games.

In terms of talent, Simmons definitely deserved the title of NBA number one pick, but regarding determination and character, he couldn’t meet the expectations and responsibilities that come with being the top pick.

What else can be said? Wishing him good luck on the new chapter of his life.
