Regarded as an All-Star! Kuminga is eager to join the Kings and has absolutely no interest in playing for the Warriors anymore.

As of September 17th Beijing time, NBA journalist Ashish Mathur reported that Kuminga "is keen to play" for the Sacramento Kings, and this restricted free agent "has no desire" to remain with the Golden State Warriors.

Sources reveal that the Kings hold strong interest in obtaining Kuminga from the Warriors, but the Warriors are unhappy with the compensation proposed by the Kings during the "sign-and-trade" discussions.

It is reported that the Kings have offered the Warriors a deal including "Monk plus a protected first-round pick in 2030" to acquire Kuminga, while also informing Kuminga and his agent Aaron Turner that they are prepared to offer a "three-year, $63 million contract," with a player option in the third season.

Last week, the Warriors presented Kuminga with a "three-year, $75.2 million contract," where the third year is a team option, but Kuminga declined this offer because he prefers having a player option instead of the team holding the control.

Subsequently, Kuminga’s agent submitted a counteroffer to the Warriors for a "three-year, $82 million deal" including a player option in the third year, but the Warriors' management, led by GM Mike Dunleavy, rejected this proposal.

Sources also mention that Kuminga does not have a good relationship with Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. Meanwhile, the Kings have clearly communicated to Kuminga that they view him as "a forward capable of becoming an All-Star," and under head coach Doug Christie, Kuminga would receive a higher usage rate — a message that clearly resonated with him.

Currently, Kuminga’s qualifying offer stands at $7.9 million. If he accepts this offer, the wing player will have trade veto rights in the 2025-26 season and will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

Next summer, multiple NBA teams will have salary cap space to pursue Kuminga. Last season, Kuminga appeared in 47 games for the Warriors, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game, with shooting percentages of 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from three, and 66.8% from the free-throw line.

At 22 years old, Kuminga was the 7th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and has spent his entire professional career with the Warriors, averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.

In the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Warriors defeated the Rockets in a seven-game first-round series but lost 1-4 to the Timberwolves in the second round. Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks during that postseason.

It is noteworthy that Kuminga earned playing time against the Rockets because Butler was injured and missed Game 3; his participation against the Timberwolves was due to Curry’s injury in Game 1, which sidelined him from Games 2 through 5.

All signs indicate that Kuminga is highly likely to accept the qualifying offer for the 2025-26 season and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. He must decide whether to accept the qualifying offer by October 1st.
