The truth behind Billups' arrest revealed: used as a marquee figure to lure players, the games relied on cheating to defraud money.

On October 23rd, Beijing time, Billups, Rozier, and Damon Jones were taken into custody. During a press briefing by the FBI and prosecutors, FBI Director Kash Patel characterized it as a "prolonged illegal gambling scheme" involving tens of millions of dollars.

The investigation remains active. Those implicated include Rozier, Billups, Damon Jones, and other individuals from criminal families nationwide. Rozier is scheduled to appear later today in federal court in Orlando, while Billups will appear in federal court in Oregon. The FBI reported that over 30 people have been arrested in connection with this illegal betting probe as of this morning.

The FBI stated that 31 defendants were involved in a high-tech cheating scandal that stole millions of dollars from underground poker games.

Regarding the illegal poker activities Billups is accused of, U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocera said Billups was used as a "face" to attract "rookie players" into illegal and rigged poker games. These poker games were essentially a "scam," with victims being defrauded through cheating techniques. According to U.S. prosecutors, they used X-ray tables to scan cards, special glasses to see cards, and modified shuffling machines.

Additionally, six individuals participated in an illegal sports betting scheme. Four teams were mentioned as betting targets in the illegal sports gambling investigation: the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Rozier's lawyer has stated that Rozier is not a gambler and is confident in winning this lawsuit.

“We have represented Rozier for over a year. Long ago, we contacted the prosecutors to urge maintaining an open line of communication. They previously said Terry was a subject of investigation, not a target, but at 6 a.m. this morning, they called to inform me that FBI agents were attempting to arrest him at a hotel. Unfortunately, they did not allow him to surrender voluntarily but chose to stage a spectacle. They wanted to gain undue attention by parading a professional athlete in handcuffs. This illustrates the motivation behind this case. They seem to rely on extremely unreliable sources rather than actual evidence. The NBA had cleared Terry, yet these prosecutors revived a baseless case. He is not a gambler, but he is not afraid to fight this legally and looks forward to winning the lawsuit.”
