On October 29th Beijing time, former NBA center and current analyst Perkins confidently stated that the San Antonio Spurs' gifted player Wembanyama will join the ranks of the greatest players ever, on par with Michael Jordan and LeBron James.

“If you claim he has any shortcomings, you are deluding yourself and misleading your audience. I guarantee you won’t be able to identify a single one. Listen closely—15 to 20 years from now, the GOAT discussion will only include these names: Jordan, James, and Wembanyama. These three will always be part of the greatest-ever conversation. Because as long as this player stays healthy, he is likely to become the best defensive player we have ever seen,” Perkins said.
“I believe he can win five or six Defensive Player of the Year awards. Can anyone now point out any weaknesses in this 21-year-old’s game? I’m waiting. You can’t, because he simply doesn’t have any. Offensively, his skill set is comprehensive. He has ball-handling skills like Crawford, which you’ve seen in highlight reels; he also possesses a reliable pull-up three-point shot, which we are now seeing consistently made.”

“His off-ball movement is exceptional; he excels at cutting to the basket and remains a constant threat near the rim. Moreover, he’s now beginning to score proactively from the low post and mid-range areas. You can even have him set screens. There is nothing he can’t do. This player has fully adapted to the NBA and has a ‘killer instinct’—a hunger for victory. That’s what sets him apart and why I say that 15 to 20 years from now, the GOAT debate will include Jordan, James, and Wembanyama.”
Wembanyama’s early NBA career has been stunning. In the 2023-24 rookie season, he was unanimously named NBA Rookie of the Year, leading all rookies with averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game.
In the 2024-25 season, despite missing the latter half due to a right shoulder hematoma, Wembanyama still posted averages of 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game. He also earned his first NBA All-Star selection.

So far in the 2025-26 season, Wembanyama is averaging 31.0 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 4.8 blocks per game, leading the Spurs to a perfect 4-0 start. Will he ultimately be included in the GOAT discussion? Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts.
