The Lakers plan to sign Timmy to a two-way contract! Last week he was named G League Player of the Week, averaging 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.

As of November 22nd Beijing time, reporter Siegel revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers are planning to sign free agent forward Drew Timmy to a two-way deal.

At present, the Lakers’ three two-way contract slots are filled by Nick Smith Jr., Christian Koloko, and Chris Mannon. Siegel learned that Nick Smith Jr. is unlikely to be waived, so the team will most likely release either Koloko or Mannon to free up a roster spot for Timmy.

Drew Timmy had an outstanding college career at Gonzaga University but unfortunately went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. During the first two seasons after graduation, he spent most of his time playing in the NBA Development League. Due to his strong performance in the 2024-2025 regular season with the Long Island affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, the Nets signed him to a two-year standard contract at the end of March.

At the end of June, the Nets exercised Timmy’s $1,955,377 player option, though the salary was not guaranteed. Ultimately, the Nets waived him during the preseason. The 25-year-old forward/center appeared in 9 games for the Nets late last season, averaging 28.2 minutes, 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game; his shooting percentages were 44.1% from the field, 25.7% from three-point range, and 62.5% from the free-throw line.

This season, Timmy has been playing for the South Bay Lakers, the Lakers’ G League affiliate, and was named G League Player of the Week last week after averaging 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
