Reports indicate mutual interest between Morant and the Miami Heat! Internal discussions in Miami focus on whether he can return to All-Star form.

On January 14th Beijing time, NBA reporter Jake Weinbach revealed that Ja Morant and the Miami Heat have shown reciprocal interest. If Tyler Herro is excluded from trade talks, then the expiring contracts of Rozier and Fontaiqiao, along with the 2025 first-round pick Yakushionis, will be key assets in this potential deal.

Previously, NBA reporter Rachel Nichols noted that Morant desires to join Miami. Insider Fischer reported that some Heat members have begun discussions about whether the team can create a positive environment for Morant to help him regain his All-Star peak performance.

Sources reveal that Morant is "displeased" playing under Grizzlies coach Isola. The point guard reportedly disagrees with Isola’s coaching approach, which involves short rotation stints followed by large-scale substitutions. This tactic disrupts Morant’s rhythm, making it difficult for him to find his flow during games.

The Grizzlies are currently listening to offers and considering trading Morant, who does not have a trade veto in his contract. Several teams are pursuing Morant in trade negotiations, and executives around the league believe the Grizzlies will prioritize draft picks and young players as primary returns.

With several promising young talents emerging on the roster, the Grizzlies are evaluating multiple future paths. However, the team has not ruled out continuing to build around Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. as core players.

This season, Morant has played 18 games, averaging 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 40.1%, three-point shooting at 20.8%, and free-throw accuracy of 90.0%.

A two-time All-Star, Morant’s salary this season is $39.4 million. His salary for next season will be $42.2 million, and in the final year of his contract (2027-28), it will rise to $44.9 million.
