CBS experts also shared their comments on the frontrunners for each award—
Regarding MVP, Jokic and Alexander were initially neck and neck, but Jokic’s unexpected injury removed all doubt about the MVP title. As long as he stays healthy, Alexander’s repeat as MVP seems guaranteed.

For Defensive Player of the Year, Gobert’s defensive impact is unquestionable, delivering another stellar season with the Timberwolves. Although Wembanyama is a strong defender, his availability has been affected.
In the Rookie of the Year race, the competition between Flagg and Knupel is fierce, but overall, the top pick Flagg stands out as the stronger player.

Regarding Coach of the Year, Mazula has led a team initially expected to tank into the core contenders in the Eastern Conference.
For Sixth Man of the Year, the competition is intense. Naz Reid’s nightly performances for the Timberwolves are vital for a team lacking depth. Keldon Johnson’s shooting this season has been scorching hot, seemingly unstoppable.

Concerning Most Improved Player, Avdiya, playing as a point guard, has posted All-Star level scoring numbers. Despite the team suffering significant injuries and offensive struggles, he has held up the Trail Blazers’ offense, making a leap from a solid starter to an All-Star caliber player.
