Trail Blazers officially announce the assignment of Yang Hansen: Today he will once again play for the Blue Team in the G League; last game he scored 22 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists.

On January 17th Beijing time, the Trail Blazers officially announced Yang Hansen’s reassignment to the G League. He will once again suit up for the Rip City Remix to face the Oklahoma City Blue today. At present, Remix holds the 9th spot in the G League West with a 5-5 record, while the Blue Team is ranked 14th with 2 wins and 8 losses.

The two teams clashed on January 15th, where Remix secured a commanding 123-99 home win over the Oklahoma City Blue. Yang Hansen started and played 31 minutes, shooting 6 of 12 from the field, including 0 of 2 from three-point range, and made 5 of 6 free throws. He led the team with 22 points, along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks, finishing with a plus-minus of +21. The 22 points also marked a career-high for Hansen in the G League.

On January 16th, the Trail Blazers officially recalled Yang Hansen from Remix for their home game against the Hawks. If Hansen had played in that game, it would have marked three consecutive days of competition for him. However, he did not get any playing time in that match, and the Trail Blazers subsequently assigned him back to the G League for further development.

Yesterday, Portland media outlet Rip City Project wrote about Yang Hansen, suggesting that keeping him in the development league is the best solution. The media noted that all the qualities the Trail Blazers valued when drafting Hansen have been fully displayed in the G League. His dominance inside, refined footwork, expansive court vision, and excellent basketball IQ are clearly evident. Although his professional career is just beginning, unfortunately, none of these impressive traits have yet translated successfully to the NBA stage.

Considering both Yang Hansen’s long-term development and the Trail Blazers’ short-term goal of making the playoffs, allowing this rookie to continue in the development league remains the optimal choice for now. What are your thoughts? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments.

So far this season, Yang Hansen has appeared in 23 games for the Trail Blazers, averaging 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, with a shooting percentage of 29.2% and a three-point percentage of 16.1%. In the G League, he has played 6 games, averaging 17.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per contest.
