In the first quarter, Whiteside and Goodwin scored twice on fast breaks, giving Shanghai an early 4-0 lead. Jerman hit a signature three-pointer to open Beijing’s scoring. Goodwin and Zhang Zhenlin combined inside and outside, sparking a scoring run that extended Shanghai’s lead to 12-5. After Zhang Cairen made a three-pointer from the left baseline, Liu Zheng quickly answered with a three of his own. With Goodwin’s soaring layup, Beijing called a timeout. After the break, both teams experienced a scoring drought until Chen Yingjun knocked down a step-back three to break the deadlock. Lofton used his individual skills to score twice inside, and Shanghai ended the quarter leading 22-13.
