Beijing time April 18th, according to Spurs reporter Tom Orsborn, Stephon Castle has understood during his two seasons with the Spurs: from Gregg Popovich, you will always get straightforward and honest words.

The 2024–25 NBA Rookie of the Year said after today's training session: "Having such a senior figure to confide in has greatly helped me and many teammates. Whether in good times or bad during games, Pop always tells you the truth and speaks frankly."
Because of this, earlier this week, when 77-year-old team basketball operations president Popovich addressed the entire team at the Victory Capital Training Center, Castle and his teammates all listened attentively and paid close attention. Last May, this NBA's all-time winningest coach and five-time championship legend officially stepped down from his head coaching position (he had suffered a sudden stroke six months prior).

According to Fox, Popovich began by congratulating the team on completing a successful regular season. This two-time All-Star added: "Then secondly, he talked about the adjustments necessary between the regular season and the playoffs. He is one of the most historically successful and championship-decorated legendary coaches, so it's perfectly fitting for him to give the team advice, guidance, and share insights."
Castle revealed that Popovich also appeared at the training facility today. Facing the upcoming Western Conference first-round seven-game series against the Trail Blazers, he encouraged the players to stay true to themselves and play their natural game.
“He told us there's no need to deliberately change the way we've played all season,” Castle said. “He reminded us of our excellent form and the favorable position we are in now. Just continue playing the way we always have and maintain our strengths.”

Castle also mentioned that the most important advice Popovich gave him privately was: maintain a steady mindset regardless of good or bad situations.
“Whether winning big or losing, keep a steady rhythm and do every necessary thing well,” Castle stated.
The first game between the Spurs and the Trail Blazers will start at 9:00 AM Beijing time on April 20th.
