Report: Celtics Have Officially Submitted an Offer for Giannis! Boston Could Be the Ultimate Winner: Deal Expected Within a Week

On June 14, Beijing time, with the NBA Finals wrapping up today, the Giannis trade saga has just one week left. The Celtics were upset by the 76ers in the first round of this year's playoffs, a result that left much to be desired. Over the past few weeks, both the team and the Bucks' cornerstone player have been the subject of frequent trade chatter.

As the draft draws near, trade rumors are heating up, and all eyes around the league are on Boston. The Ringer's Bill Simmons has been tracking Giannis' situation closely, and last week he changed his previous stance, reassessing the Celtics' pursuit. Simmons and renowned NBA insider Zach Lowe discussed the latest buzz surrounding Boston's chase for Giannis on their podcast.

Lowe said: "You've talked about this before. I'm convinced the Celtics are fully in on this—they're not just dipping their toes in."

Simmons responded: "From what I hear, they've gone all in. Just last week, a few days before I went public about it on Thursday, the Celtics actually submitted a trade offer. I don't know the exact terms or which players are involved, but the offer is officially on the table. That really caught me off guard—I thought they'd stay put."

Simmons believes the Celtics will emerge as the ultimate winners in the Giannis sweepstakes, predicting the trade will be completed within a week.

Previously, multiple industry sources considered the Miami Heat the frontrunner to land the Bucks star. However, if the Celtics are willing to part with All-Star forward Jaylen Brown, they could assemble a package—combining player assets and draft capital—that surpasses Miami's offer. Brown might ultimately be flipped to a third team in exchange for the draft picks the Bucks covet more.

Giannis wields significant influence over his next destination. He could sign a four-year, $275 million extension as early as this October or six months after being traded. His current contract has only one guaranteed year remaining, and he can opt out next summer.

Last week, Simmons stated that the Heat and Celtics are the two teams Giannis favors the most.

"Giannis leans toward joining the Heat or the Celtics," Simmons said at the time. "Between the two, he prefers Boston because they offer the best chance to win a title. I'm told the Celtics haven't ruled out bringing him in either. At this point, nothing this team does would surprise me."

The 31-year-old Giannis played 36 games in the 2025-26 season, averaging 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
