Breaking! Celtics and 76ers agree to a 1-for-5 trade: Brown and George swap teams

On July 2, Beijing time, according to renowned reporter Shams, sources revealed that the Boston Celtics have reached a trade, sending Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.

Jaylen Brown was the third overall pick in the 2016 draft, standing 1.98m, an elite two-way guard/forward. Career averages: 20 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists. He is a three-time All-Star, one-time All-NBA Second Team, led the team to the 2024 championship, winning both the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and Finals MVP, and holds a historic 5-year, $304 million max contract.

He possesses explosive athleticism, strong driving ability, and excels in both isolation scoring and catch-and-shoot threes. Last season he averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, with a three-point percentage of 37.8%. Defensively, he has long arms and lateral quickness, capable of guarding positions 1 through 4, often tasked with defending the opponent's top scorer. During his Celtics career, he reached the Finals twice, forming a duo with Jayson Tatum, providing consistent scoring and defense. However, the team ultimately traded him to the 76ers for Paul George and draft assets.

George is 34 years old, the 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft. His career has taken him through the Pacers, Thunder, Clippers, and 76ers. Standing 2.03m, he is a veteran versatile forward. He is a nine-time All-Star, six-time All-NBA, four-time All-Defensive Team, won the steals title in 2019, and was once third in MVP voting. Career averages: 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, with a three-point percentage of 38.4%.

George suffered a devastating leg injury but made a strong comeback. His shooting form is consistent; he is proficient in pull-up threes, pick-and-roll ball-handling, and post-ups against mismatches, with excellent clutch ability. Defensively, he has elite instincts and anticipation, top-tier in the league for steals, capable of both on-ball and help defense. Compared to Brown, George has more playoff experience and stronger playmaking ability, but his athleticism and physicality have declined with age. The Celtics sent Brown to acquire George plus two first-round and two second-round picks, relying on George's mature off-ball and defensive systems to restructure the team's frontline core.
