On July 8, Beijing time, the Los Angeles Lakers officially announced the signing of guard Quentin Grimes. According to earlier reports, Grimes agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal.

Grimes, who measures 1.96 meters and weighs 94 kg, played for the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2025-26 season, appearing in 75 regular-season games (19 starts) and averaging 29.4 minutes, 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. The Texas native scored in double figures a total of 53 times, including 15 games with 20 or more points; he made at least three three-pointers in 20 games. On defense, he recorded multiple steals in 15 games and at least one block in 20 games.

Grimes has a five-year NBA career, having played for New York (2021-24), Detroit Pistons (2024), Dallas Mavericks (2024-25), and Philadelphia 76ers (2025-26). Over 318 regular-season games (146 starts), he averaged 25.6 minutes, 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 44.6% from the field, 36.6% from three-point range, and 79.3% from the free-throw line. He also played in 20 playoff games for New York (2023) and Philadelphia (2026).
The 26-year-old was selected 25th overall in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, before being traded to the New York Knicks. In college, he spent his freshman season at Kansas and later transferred to the University of Houston from 2019 to 2021. During his final collegiate season, Grimes led his team to the 2021 NCAA Final Four, earned All-America Third Team honors, and was named the AAC Co-Player of the Year. He led the team with 1.4 steals per game and shot 40.3% from three-point range.
In the new season, Grimes will wear the Lakers' purple and gold No. 5 jersey.
