July 15, Beijing time - AJ Dibansa's NBA Summer League campaign was cut short. The Washington Wizards opted to rest the top pick after he delivered two standout performances, choosing not to have him participate in the remaining games. Wizards Summer League head coach T.J. Sorrentin revealed this move to The Athletic before the matchup against the Bulls today.

Teams typically protect their lottery picks by having them play only two Summer League games before resting them. The Wizards also sat second-year wings Will Riley and Tre Johnson.
Dibansa scored 27 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in his first Summer League game, then followed up with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. In two games, Dibansa totaled 50 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocks, shooting 13-of-33 from the field, including 1-of-11 from three-point range and 12-of-22 on two-pointers. After playing his final Summer League game, Dibansa told ESPN: "For me, it felt more like a testing ground. I was trying to adapt to the pace, the system, the opponents, the teammates, and the physicality of the league."
Since March 20, when his team lost 71-79 to the University of Texas in the first round of the NCAA tournament and he scored 35 points and 10 rebounds, this Summer League was Dibansa's first official game action. Before the Summer League knockout rounds begin, the Wizards will also face the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.
Dibansa's next appearance will be in the fall. The Wizards expect him to join young stars Kyshawn George and Alex Sarr, along with veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis, to form a rotation lineup and strive to lead the team into the playoffs in the near future.
