Official announcement! The NBA's top shooter! Goodbye, Lakers!

Official announcement~

Kennard has officially joined the Suns. According to previous reports, he signed a two-year, $13 million deal (with a player option for the second year). He will wear the No. 8 jersey next season, after wearing No. 10 with the Lakers last season.

This guy was traded from the Hawks to the Lakers midway through last season, appearing in 32 regular-season games for the Purple and Gold, starting 6 times, averaging 23 minutes, 9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, while hitting 1.3 three-pointers per game at a 44.8% clip. In this year's playoffs, he played 10 games, starting 5 times, averaging 32.6 minutes, contributing 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, while making 1.8 threes per game at a 47.4% rate.

Throughout his NBA career, Kennard has averaged 1.9 three-pointers per game in the regular season at a 44.2% rate, and in the playoffs, he has averaged 1.5 threes per game at a 45% rate. In short, he is a highly efficient super sharpshooter whose presence greatly opens up a team's offensive spacing.

However, to be fair, Kennard bringing his talents to the Suns might not see him as heavily utilized as he was with the Lakers last season, because the team is not short on guards or offensive weapons. Booker, Jalen Green, and even Dillon Brooks firmly control the backcourt touches.

Of course, Kennard is not a superstar, so his options in free agency were limited. He should feel fortunate to have a team pick him up, without worrying too much about the details.

The question is: didn't the Lakers plan to keep the league's most accurate and also very white shooter? It seems they didn't. As for why, there is no clear answer yet.

It's worth noting that all five starters from the Lakers' first-round playoff sweep of the Rockets (4-2) have left the team. Besides Kennard, the other four have gone as follows:

Marcus Smart signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Rockets.

Deandre Ayton was traded to the Wizards.

Rui Hachimura signed a two-year, $28 million deal with the Clippers.

LeBron James is still wandering in free agency.

With that, the Purple and Gold have officially begun a new era, one dominated by Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.

Is this right or wrong? Time will tell.
