Giannis Antetokounmpo officially debuted with the Heat! He revealed the reason for switching to jersey number 7 and boldly stated his goal is to become a multiple-time champion.

On July 17, Beijing time, Giannis Antetokounmpo officially appeared as a member of the Miami Heat. During a press conference with Miami media, he did not dwell much on the Milwaukee Bucks, stating thatone of his goals in joining the Heat is to win multiple championships. However, after the trade that sent him to the South Beach team, he still offered warm words for his former club. This included his decision to switch from his iconic Bucks No. 34 jersey to the Heat's No. 7.

Giannis revealed that he originally chose No. 34 because his mother was born in 1963 and his father in 1964, and he combined the two years' digits. Interestingly, the sum of 3 and 4 equals his new jersey number.

"No. 34 carries a heavy weight and holds countless memories," Giannis said. "Out of respect for the team that drafted me and where I played for 13 years, I decided to leave that number with the Bucks and start a new chapter. I hope to make my mark in Miami and make No. 7 as legendary as No. 34. On an emotional and psychological level, saying goodbye to that number is a fitting closure—it means a lot to me."

"No. 7 looks great—fresh, simple, and clean. I've seen kids on the street wearing my No. 7 jersey. I'm really looking forward to creating more amazing moments with this number."

Giannis first worked out at the Heat's arena, then joined head coach Erik Spoelstra and Heat president Pat Riley for a media session. Riley revealed that as early as the February trade deadline, the team nearly completed a deal to acquire Giannis, with negotiations lasting until midnight, but the trade ultimately fell through.

"We believe that in terms of competitive philosophy and approach to the game, he fits perfectly with us," Spoelstra commented. "He has a fierce fighting spirit. We've faced him many times over the years, and through those battles we developed immense respect. I've always admired his competitive demeanor. He has strong willpower, extraordinary talent, and carries a winning mindset every single day."

Giannis echoed that sentiment. He stated that around the league, the Heat are widely regarded as a highly respected team.

Giannis briefly reflected on his final season with the Bucks, which was filled with rumors about his impending departure.

"Throughout the season, there were constant rumors back and forth... Maybe I should have stepped up earlier to calm them down, and I actually tried multiple times," he said. "But my communication with my teammates was always clear and smooth, and we were always on the same page. Now that everything has settled, I think the Bucks are in a good place, and I have found a new home. I truly respect them. I hope they respect me and remember everything I gave to that city."
