On June 1, Beijing time, NBA reporter Jake Weinbach reported that 23-year-old Hornets center Mark Williams is expected to reappear on the trade market this summer. In February, he was traded to the Lakers and was "returned" due to medical issues. Weinbach said that the Bucks, Bulls, Celtics, Raptors and Warriors will all be seen as potential suitors if the Hornets continue to peddle the starter-caliber center.
In the 2024-25 season, Ma Wei played in 44 regular season games, averaging 15.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, shooting 60.5% from the field and 80.4% from the free throw line. Prior to the trade deadline, the Hornets had struck a deal with the Lakers to send Marwe to the Lakers in exchange for Knecht, Reddish, an unprotected 2031 first-round pick and a 2030 first-round swap right. However, two days after the deal was completed, the Lakers eventually canceled the deal due to concerns about Ma Wei's medical condition.
Shams said at the time that Ma Wei was found to have a number of problems during the medical examination, but the cancellation of the deal was not the cause of the back injury. Subsequently, Sidery followed up by reporting that one reason why Ma Wei's trade with the Lakers was canceled due to a failed medical exam was serious concerns about his history of left foot injuries.
However, as Weinbach reported, Marvier's return to the shelves will still attract interest from many teams, including the Warriors, who need to upgrade their center position. Recently, some media have posted a three-way trade plan for the Warriors to get Ma Wei and Cameron Johnson at the same time, as follows-
Warriors get: Cameron Johnson, Mark Williams, Okogie
Nets get: Kuminga, Hield, 2028 first-round pick from the Warriors
Hornets get: Moody, Jackson Davis, 2032 first-round pick from the Warriors
