On June 14, Beijing time, ESPN Famer Shams said on the show that as the draft approaches, trade negotiations for Durant are becoming more and more intense, and the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves are the teams that have recently conducted in-depth negotiations with the Suns on a potential trade for Durant.
"The Suns have received inquiries from about six to eight teams that have expressed interest, made offers and opened negotiations," Shams said. But as far as I know, over the past 24 to 48 hours, the Suns' negotiations have focused on a few teams: the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and Minnesota Timberwolves. For now, these three teams are the main potential next to the Durant trade. Previously, NBA insider Ary broke the news that Durant's potential next home has been reduced to the Rockets and Timberwolves.
Earlier this week, Shams reported that the Suns, Durant and their business partner and agent Rich Kleiman were screening potential trade options, mentioning that the Rockets, Heat, Timberwolves, Knicks and Spurs could all be home to the super-forward. But then, multiple Knicks reporters reported that New York was not chasing Durant, and the latest report also pointed out that the chances of the Spurs successfully acquiring the former MVP are gradually decreasing.
Even so, the Spurs (+100) are still at the top of Durant's latest odds list, with the Heat rising from +1000 to +250 in second place, the Timberwolves in third place at +400 and the Rockets in fourth place at +600.The Durant deal appears to be on track for the next 72 hours, according to Sidery.
Sidery also said that the Heat were reluctant to include Weil in the trade regarding Durant, but were willing to send Jaime Harkes Jr. or Nikola Jovic. The Heat's offer to the Suns for Durant would have either Harkes or Jovic at the core, along with the necessary salary matching chips and draft pick assets.
That doesn't mean the Rockets, Heat, and Timberwolves are the only teams still in contention. Suns reporter Gambadoro said on the show that in addition to the three teams mentioned by Shams for in-depth negotiations, he is also keeping an eye on the Spurs, Raptors and Clippers, in addition to other "dark horse" teams that may be joining. ESPN also mentioned today that the Clippers could be a potential home for Durant.
Notably, both Shams and Gambadoro believe the deal could be made well in advance of the draft. Gambadoro had said the deal would be done at some point next week, and Shams agreed when asked about the report on the show: "You said in a week, I thought it could be faster. There is trade momentum for some teams, and there may be a trade move for Durant in less than seven days, and we could see that in the coming days. ”
Separately, NBA commissioner Adam Shaw and the league office generally discourage teams from striking (or at least leaking) blockbuster deals in mid-June so as not to steal the show for the NBA Finals, NBC Sports reported. So, while the Durant trade appears to be progressing, it still needs to be taken into account when predicting the timeline for the deal to be done.
Game 5 of the NBA Finals will be played on June 17, with Game 6 scheduled for June 20 and Game 7 on June 23.
