On July 23, Beijing time, the Trail Blazers announced that they have officially signed guard Blake Wesley. Earlier reports indicated that Wesley reached a buyout with the Wizards and subsequently agreed to a one-year contract with the Trail Blazers, which is fully guaranteed.

Wesley was the 25th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, coming from Notre Dame, and has played his first three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, appearing in a total of 156 regular-season games. His role with the Spurs was limited, averaging only 4.3 points and 2.4 assists in 14.3 minutes per game, with shooting percentages of 40.9%, 29.7%, and 63.4% for field goals, three-pointers, and free throws, respectively.
Despite Wesley's modest contributions at the NBA level, he is regarded as an excellent on-ball defender at just 22 years old. Additionally, his shooting performance in the G League surpassed that in the NBA—while playing for the Austin Spurs, he recorded a shooting percentage of 45.6% and a three-point percentage of 35.9%.

Earlier this month, Wesley was traded to the Washington Wizards in a deal involving Kelly Olynyk. However, he spent only about a week and a half as a Wizards player before agreeing to forfeit approximately $1.38 million of his $4.73 million salary for the 2025-26 season in exchange for the team's release.
The specific financial terms of Wesley's contract with the Portland Trail Blazers have not been disclosed, but it is expected to be a minimum salary contract, approximately $2.38 million. This means he compensates for the salary he forfeited during the buyout with the Wizards and more than makes up for it.
With the signing of Wesley, the number of regular contract players on the Trail Blazers reaches 15, with 14 of them holding guaranteed contracts. The salary guarantee date for Dupe Reese is set for August 1 local time.

With the Trail Blazers selecting Yang Hansheng at the 16th pick, the team's profile has significantly increased, and they will be aiming for the playoffs in the upcoming season. The current roster composition is as follows—
15 regular contract players (sorted by annual salary): Jrue Holiday, Grant, Avdija, Lillard, Roie, Thybulle, Henderson, Sharpe, Klingen, Yang Hansheng, Chris Murray, Blake Wesley, Kamara, Dupe Reese, Luipel.
2 two-way contract players: Sissoko, Caleb Love.
