On July 25, Beijing time, the well-known American media Hoops Hype released the Summer League performance rankings based on their Global Rating data model. In this ranking, Yang Hanson placed 123rd out of a total of 448 Summer League players, ranking 5th within the Trail Blazers.
Yang Hanson participated in 4 games in the Summer League, averaging 10.8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. His RAT value (a metric for assessing overall performance, also related to the number of games played) is 7.65, ranking 5th in the Trail Blazers. The top four players ahead of him in the Trail Blazers are Booker Knight, Luipel, DJ-Carleton, and Caleb Love, who rank 28th, 31st, 42nd, and 57th in the league, respectively.
Currently, Yang Hanson has returned to China, but he has confirmed that he will not participate in the Asian Cup matches. After a period of rest, Yang Hanson will head back to the United States to join the Trail Blazers' short training camp in early August, focusing on improving the areas where he fell short in the Summer League, in preparation for the official training camp, preseason games, and the regular season of the new season.
Sports journalist Bill Simmons discussed the rumors of the Trail Blazers' team sale in his latest podcast, mentioning Yang Hanson as well.
“I’ve heard that the Trail Blazers already have buyers, and I’ve also heard that the sale price will exceed $4 billion, which are the two pieces of information I have,” Bill Simmons stated. “I think most people generally believe it will be around $3.5 billion, but I believe it will exceed $4 billion.”
He mentioned that the scarcity of teams available for trade could drive up the price, pushing it beyond $4 billion, and noted that if other teams like the Pelicans or Bulls were also for sale, it might attract more buyers' interest.
In May of this year, Natalie King, Senior Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs for the Trail Blazers, confirmed the team’s sale process, stating in a press release that the estate management is executing Paul Allen’s directive to divest sports assets and use the proceeds for charitable purposes.
Bill Simmons indicated that Yang Hanson’s draft and Lillard’s return are both related to the Trail Blazers' selling strategy. He mentioned that these two events could enhance the team's appeal to potential buyers.
“The Lillard situation is just crazy. They spent $14 million this year to keep him off the court. I know his return is a good thing, but I think these two matters (referring to Lillard's return and the sale of the Trail Blazers) are very noteworthy together.”
Bill Simmons further emphasized Yang Hanson’s draft position. “In fact, you selected Yang Hanson at 16th, while he might have been picked around 25th to 30th, but you were eager to get him and didn’t want to mess up the sale.”
