As Donald Trump would say, Australian athletes are experiencing more victories than ever before! Oh my goodness, it's overwhelming! Here’s the latest on our fellow countrymen making us proud abroad.

Ten titles for our man AdM

On Monday morning AEST, 26-year-old Alex De Minaur achieved his tenth ATP Tour title with anunexpected comeback win against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Washington Open.

It was a thrilling three-hour match in which De Minaur saved three match points in the same game while trailing 5-4 in the final set and serving to stay in the match after being 5-2 down earlier in the set.

"I don’t know how (I won)," De Minaur told reporters at the post-match press conference.

"I believed in myself and decided to commit, regardless of the outcome, and if I lost, it would be on my terms, and today it turned out in my favor. I’ve had a few tough losses, so I’m glad this one went my way."

I’m really pleased with my current state, handling things both on and off the court. I approached today with the mindset that even if it didn’t go my way, it was still a very positive week, so I was proud of my performance regardless, but wow, it feels great to hold my tenth title.

Davidovich Fokina is still seeking his first ATP title, having also squandered a5-2 lead in the third set of the Delray Beach final against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanović in February, prompting De Minaur to comfort his devastated opponent.

That marked Davidovich Fokina's fourth ATP final loss and his third in 2025 alone, so he can’t be far from breaking his drought.

Meanwhile, De Minaur will rise from 13th to eighth in the ATP men's singles rankings and is now just one title shy of matching the 11 held by both Mark Philippoussis and Pat Rafter.

Alex De Minaur's ATP titles: 2019 Sydney International, 2019 & 2022 Atlanta Opens, 2019 Zhuhai Championships, 2021 Antalya Open, 2021 Eastbourne International, 2023 & 2024 Mexican Opens, 2024 Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, 2025 Washington Open

Piastri maintains Championship lead with Belgian GP victory

McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris stood together on the podium for an astonishing tenth time this season as Piastri secured his sixth race win to extend his lead over Norris in the 2025 Drivers' Championship to 16 points.

The McLaren Championship rivalry hasn’t yet escalated into a negative competition, with both drivers reaffirming at the start of the weekend that their relationship remains friendly and productive, but Piastri seized the opportunity to overtake Norris on the race's opening lap.

He utilized Norris' slipstream through the lengthy and iconic Eau Rouge section of the track, just as sprint race winner Max Verstappen had done to him the day before, winning by a margin of 0.753 seconds.

"I realized that lap one was likely my best chance to win the race," Piastri stated afterwards. "I eased off a bit as I went through Eau Rouge, and that was sufficient."

Norris acknowledged to reporters that he couldn't have won despite his best efforts.

"Oscar just did an excellent job - there's not much more to say. He was more committed in Eau Rouge, and that was that. Oscar deserved the victory today."

The drivers head to Hungary this week before the competition takes a three-week mid-season break.

We now have 16 Tour de France stage winners

Queensland's Kaden Groves won Stage 20 of the 2025 Tour de France early Saturday morning our time, just two days after Western Australia's Ben O'Connor claimed Stage 18.

Groves had to exert considerable effort in wet and challenging conditions before executing a successful breakaway sprint to finish 54 seconds ahead of the next best, Frank van den Broek.

He was overwhelmed with emotion as he completed the ultimate set of stage wins in world cycling, having already triumphed in stages of both the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta de Espana.

Today we were uncertain whether to aim for the stage or wait for tomorrow," Groves remarked.

"When the rain falls, I usually feel fantastic in the cold weather.

There’s immense pressure at the Tour, and after winning in the Giro and the Vuelta, all I ever hear is whether I’m capable of winning at the Tour? And now I can show them.

This is my first victory, so it’s quite incredible.

O'Connor and Groves became the 15th and 16th Australians to win a stage at this prestigious event, contributing to a total of 40 stage victories by these 16 men, including Aussie cycling legends Robbie McEwen (12) and Caleb Ewan (five).

Australia on the brink of a 5-0 Caribbean clean sweep

It's hard to believe that even the Aussies would have entered their 68th bilateral T20I series thinking they could return home with their first ever 5-0 victory.

But that seems likely after four commanding wins in Jamaica and St Kitts against the West Indies.

In all four matches, captain Mitch Marsh won the coin toss, opted to bowl first, and his teammates chased down targets ranging from 173 to 215 with authority.

Sunday morning's win was the least convincing of the series, but Cameron Green's third half-century helped secure the victory.

Green looks poised to be Australia’s new number four at the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, although Matt Short's injury in this series and the voluntary absences of bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood meant they didn’t get a chance to establish a solid opening combination or bowling unit for that tournament.

The final game is set for Tuesday morning at 9am AEST, while their next T20I series will take place on home soil against South Africa in mid-August.

Here are a couple of updates you might have missed...

Former Adelaide United academy graduate Mohamed Touré assisted in the first of two goals scored by Danish club Randers in their weekend victory against Aarhus.

Former A-League star and future Socceroo Noah Botic didn't take long to find the net in his European stint, scoring an equalizer in the first round of Austria's OFB Cup over the weekend.
