Like and follow, don't get lost in the game~
Hello everyone, I am Game Xiaodi.
Xiaodi has noticed that many players don't fully understand penetration in Honor of Kings. Penetration is divided into flat penetration and percentage penetration, and it is also closely related to resistance and shields. Therefore, often some players don't know what equipment to choose. In this episode, Xiaodi will briefly discuss magic penetration as an example.

Among magic equipment, there are generally only two main choices for magic penetration: Sunset Stream and Void Staff. Although Arcane Boots also provide penetration, they are usually replaced in the late game, so they are not included in the discussion.
Let's first look at the attributes of the two items: Sunset Stream has base stats of 160 magic attack, 500 max HP, 10% cooldown reduction. Its passive grants 20-40 magic penetration when dealing damage to heroes, stackable up to 6 times, for a maximum of 240 magic penetration. Void Staff has base stats of 210 magic attack, 500 max HP, and 5% cooldown reduction. Its passive increases magic penetration by 45%. These are the two representative items for flat penetration and percentage penetration respectively.

Generally, players bring runes into the game, and runes also have penetration stats. The most common rune set for mages is the 88 magic penetration rune set, which provides an initial 88 magic penetration. We calculate based on this, and the final critical value works out to 621. It's simple: during the game, check the enemy's magic resistance. If it's above 621, then build Void Staff; if below 621, build Sunset Stream.

The above conclusion is just a simple selection when you need to buy one, but in actual gameplay, there are other factors to consider, as different items suit different heroes:
Sunset Stream does provide flat magic penetration, but it requires stacking. Therefore, it is more suitable for mages who can deal multi-hit damage, such as Yingzheng, etc., because only these mages can fully stack the passive and maximize the item's effectiveness. Additionally, to stack the passive as quickly as possible, Sunset Stream is often paired with the Pain Mask, as the Pain Mask's passive triggers multiple damage instances, perfectly matching the stacking requirement of Sunset Stream.

Void Staff directly provides 45% penetration, so it is more suitable for burst mages like Daji, Angela, and similar heroes. Void Staff is clearly the better choice, and it also provides more magic attack, making it more effective for these burst mages.

Similarly, physical penetration follows the same logic. The choice between the Star Crusher and the Shadow Battle Axe is similar, but not as complicated, since the Shadow Battle Axe does not require stacking.
