Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.

The new season's Liu'er has been released. Have you tried it yet? It's been two days now, and Liu'er's performance may have surprised many. Xiaodi has been tracking Liu'er's data and found that the win rate is steadily climbing. Across all ranks, it has gone from 47% on the first day to 48.4% on the second. High-rank segments are also rising, meaning that as players adapt and explore, Liu'er's true strength is being revealed.

Liu'er's popularity is unexpected.

Aside from the win rate, Liu'er's popularity has also surprised Xiaodi. Although when it was first announced, many players thought it was just a substitute for Sun Wukong and not really necessary. But after the official release, players seem to have quickly accepted it. Across all ranks, Liu'er's pick rate is 39.5% and the ban rate is 51.6%, meaning a combined ban-pick rate of over 90%—truly a must-ban or must-pick! Moreover, in peak matches, the ban-pick rate is over 75%, and in top-tier matches it's similar to all ranks, approaching 90%. It seems no new hero in Honor of Kings' history has ever had such popularity. Even Zhao Huaizhen and Ji Xiaoman, who were once hailed as three-dimensional heroes, couldn't achieve this.

Xiaodi thinks the reason players have accepted Liu'er so quickly is twofold. First, Liu'er's mechanics are truly novel and the gameplay is fun—this is the fundamental reason. Second, the design of the hero's destiny: although named Liu'er, it is essentially Sun Wukong, so there is no sense of rejection at all. This design is truly ingenious.

Liu'er's gameplay approach.

Currently, there are two main approaches for Liu'er: the pure critical strike build and the half-tank build. If you're unsure, Xiaodi recommends the half-tank build.

On one hand, although Liu'er, like Sun Wukong, has the ability to enhance basic attacks with skills, it is not a hero that relies entirely on basic attack damage. Liu'er actually focuses more on skill damage. This is because Liu'er's skill cooldowns are very short—both the first and second skills have a cooldown of only 6 seconds at max level. With a 40% cooldown reduction, that becomes 3.6 seconds, allowing frequent skill usage, which offers more room for maneuver than simply relying on enhanced basic attacks.

On the other hand, Liu'er is a melee hero, meaning it needs to get close to deal damage. However, it doesn't have any true mobility skills. The ultimate skill does provide a dash, but it requires a specific condition to trigger and has a long cooldown. As a result, Liu'er cannot quickly disengage from battle and will take a lot of focused damage. Although the floating effect and the untargetable state from the ultimate can avoid some damage, the remaining damage is still significant. Therefore, Liu'er needs some tankiness to provide room for error, making the half-tank build the better choice.

So, Xiaodi recommends the following build for Liu'er: Greedy Devourer, Boots of Resistance, Infinity Edge, Dragon’s Wrath Shield, either Shatterstar or Shadow Axe, and Blood Rage’s Fury. Of course, builds can be adjusted flexibly—items like Master’s Fate or Chaos God can also be used. For now, Infinity Edge might be the only core item that is essential.
