Hi everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.
Frequent marksman players know that the endgame item for marksmen is undoubtedly the Renowned Dawnbreaker. Generally, determining whether a marksman hero has real combat capability largely depends on whether they've crafted this item at a key moment. Since it's so crucial, can we build it earlier, or even go to the extreme and make it the first item? This is certainly a question worth exploring.

The Dawnbreaker itself has quite comprehensive stats: 75 physical attack, 30% attack speed, and 15% crit chance. These attributes suit most marksmen well, and importantly, they synergize effectively with later items. For example, with the crit item Endless Blade, higher crit chance allows you to better utilize its passive 150% crit damage for more burst. Similarly, with the attack speed item Shadow Blade, the physical attack bonus prevents it from being too weak, compensating for Shadow Blade's lack of physical stats.

Of course, some players might argue that the Dawnbreaker is expensive and requires a long time to save up for. But comparing it to commonly built items like Lightning Dagger or Terminus, the Dawnbreaker is only about 400 gold more expensive, with a total cost of 2500 gold—not a huge difference. Moreover, the current game patch still doesn't favor marksmen much early on; most of the time you're under pressure and can't accomplish much. So even if it takes a bit longer to build, it's not a major issue.

If you build the Dawnbreaker first, the biggest issue is the waste of its passive effect. Everyone knows the Dawnbreaker's most valuable feature is its passive penetration. However, early in the game, when nobody has item support, physical defense isn't very high. This makes the penetration attribute largely redundant, and its true potential cannot be fully utilized.

Moreover, although marksmen mostly play defensively early on, they still need to participate in the epic monster team fights around the 4-minute mark. At that point, you usually haven't completed your first item yet, so your combat power might be lacking, making it hard to gain an early advantage. Additionally, items like Lightning Dagger significantly boost farming speed, helping marksmen get through the tough early phase faster. Considering all factors, it's actually quite feasible to build the Dawnbreaker as the second item instead.

By the way, you've probably tried the new season's Boundless Artifact. Its stats are even more comprehensive than the Dawnbreaker: physical attack, attack speed, lifesteal, and crit all in one, and it's cheaper. Its passive attack speed triggered by ultimates is quite handy, though the flying sword damage is mediocre. For some marksmen like Irene, building it first works pretty well. Give it a try!
