Hello everyone, I'm Game Xiaodi.
Xiaodi recently discovered that many players have quite a bit of discussion about the hero Doria, or more precisely, they have a strong resistance to Doria players, with related posts often seen on various community forums. The reason behind this is that Doria is far more complex than many players imagine, with a higher difficulty in mastering her compared to support heroes like Yao or Cai Wenji. This may seem counterintuitive, but it might indeed be the case.

First is team composition. For Doria to be effective, the key lies in refreshing her ultimate. Therefore, unlike other support heroes who fit a wide range of team compositions, Doria only suits a few heroes whose ultimates are crucial or can produce key effects. This requires a deep understanding of hero lineups.

However, in games, unless you are in a pre-made team, in solo queue players often pick their most played heroes rather than those that fit the composition. Moreover, players in other roles often expect the support to pick first in the first phase, making it very difficult to pick Doria in these situations.
Next is the use of the ultimate. Doria's mechanic allows her to refresh all abilities, not just the ultimate. However, when all abilities are on cooldown, the refresh prioritizes the ability with the longest cooldown, which is usually the ultimate. This requires Doria players to be familiar with all heroes' abilities—at least their effects and cooldown durations. The knowledge doesn't need to be extremely precise, but players should have a general idea. This is one of only two heroes in the canyon with this requirement; the other is Yuange.

Additionally, Doria players need to know the power spikes of all heroes. To make the ultimate refresh truly effective, you cannot simply refresh one hero's ultimate throughout the entire game, because each hero's power spike differs. For example, Marko Polo's ultimate pairs well with Doria, but refreshing it early game often yields little benefit, while late game it can be much more impactful.

Therefore, the real challenge of Doria is not in mechanical skill execution, but in having a deep understanding of the game. However, it seems that current Doria players lack sufficient awareness in this regard, which is a major reason they are criticized by others.
First, improve team composition understanding. Supports don't necessarily have to be the first pick; you can also observe the lineup and pick later. If you're unsure which heroes are compatible, refer to the camp's pre-made pairing data: if these heroes appear, consider picking Doria, such as Lü Bu, Hou Yi, Hai Yue, Shangguan Wan'er, Wu Zetian, Zhen Ji, Yi Xing, and Marko Polo. If not, it's better to switch to more versatile supports like Yao or Cai Wenji.

Second, enhance hero knowledge. This can only be achieved through practice. You can try different heroes' abilities in the training camp. If you're not interested, use each game to observe heroes' abilities. To check if your teammate's ultimate is ready, look at the hero icons near the minimap. A green dot means the ultimate is available; no dot means it's on cooldown. As for power spikes, simply check the stats panel. Generally, heroes with high gold or kills are in their power spike. Key timings often occur at 4, 10, and 15 minutes, so keep an eye on those.

That's all for now. If you found it helpful, feel free to give a like to support. If you have anything to say, ask, or want to see, leave a comment below—I'll read them all~
